The inner sign is Mountain, the Unmoving, The Restful ... This is a strong image of substance and significance ... It is an image that reminds us that the Universe has existed for far longer than our consciousness can recount ... This is the Mountain within us, that allows us, if we allow it to sustain us, to stand firm within ourselves ... This is also an image that illustrates that even the seemingly ageless Mountain is (in fact) deteriorating, albeit more slowly than we can perceive, and will eventually crumble into the earth ... We should not allow this inner mountain to rise up within us as pride or be abused to block the development of others ... So this is also an image of humility ...

To reinforce this, the only Yang(Seeking) line in the hexagram is in the third position and it is dying, giving birth to a new Yin(Embracing) line, that will join with the other five young Yin lines to form the Earth, the fundamental destination of all things, including the Mountain ... Within the canyons, valleys, deserts, forests and plains, the Earth sustains us ... It is the foundation of mountains ... Its yielding forms the paths of rivers and the basins for lakes and seas ... From its belly grows the nutrition upon which our survival depends ... From the humility of Earth over Mountain comes the centering force of the Earth ... il Matto ...
